ENG

The Cape Verde Islands (Cape Verde) (Portuguese: Cabo Verde, English: Cape Verde) are an island group and land in the Atlantic Ocean. The Cape Verde Islands have been independent from Portugal since 1975 and consist of two parts.

The Northern archipelago of Barlavento consists mainly of the islands of Santo Antão, São Vicente, Santa Luzia, São Nicolau, Sal and Boa Vista. The Southern archipelago of Sotavento mainly consists of the islands of Santiago, Maio, Fogo and Brava. The capital of the Cape Verde Islands is Praia, located on the island of Santiago. Some major cities in the Cape Verde Islands are: Mindelo, Assomada and Porto Novo.

The Cape Verde Islands are mostly mountainous, created by volcanoes. There is still a working volcano called “Pico de Fogo”, which has an altitude of no less than 2,800 meters.

The Cape Verde Islands are known for the many luxurious hotels and the white sandy beaches. In addition to the large number of sun worshipers who visit the islands due to the fact that on average only 12 days a year rain falls, the island group also attracts a large number of water sports enthusiasts.

You can dive, snorkel and windsurf around the islands. Parrotfish, barracudas, dolphins, porpoises and turtles live in the North Atlantic Ocean around the Cape Verde Islands.

The islands are also known for the different music styles and the carnival. In recent years, the Cape Verde Islands have become increasingly popular with holidaymakers, which is reflected in the increasing number of travel organizations with trips to this island group.
